Trial Set For Attempted Double Murder Suspect

San Bernardino, CA – A trial date — Monday, January 13 at 10 a.m. — has been set for Jakeb Otto Hume, 26, who was is accused of a double attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon related to an incident August 23 in Big Bear City.

COURT LogoHume, who appeared before Judge William Jefferson Powell last week, will also return to court at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, January 10, for a Readiness Calendar hearing.

During Hume’s December 20 appearance, he suffered a medical condition in the courtroom and paramedics responded to Department S-26 to attend to the defendant.

THE INCIDENT

The attempted murder charge stems from an incident involving a white male juvenile and a white male adult. Both of the unidentified alleged victims are residents of Big Bear City, according to documents supplied by the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station.

Sheriff’s Department investigators report that a party, by several local residents at a vacant home in Sugarloaf, ended with an argument and altercation.

SO BB StationDuring the altercation, Hume allegedly produced some type of stabbing weapon and used it multiple times to strike one of the two victims, according to a media release issued by Detective Jeremy King.

The juvenile victim received several cuts and a punctured lung,” the release noted. “He was transported to the hospital by paramedics for treatment. The second victim was cut when he attempted to stop the fight. He was examined by paramedics at the scene.”

HUME’S ARREST

Deputies noted in a press release that Hume fled the scene of the incident prior to the arrival of officers. The California Highway Patrol spotted Hume walking in the roadway a few blocks from the scene and he was taken into custody.

He was initially booked at the Big Bear Jail and later transferred to the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga where he is being held on $1,150,000 bail. (97)
