San Bernardino, CA – An eight (8) week delay in the dispo/reset hearing for the so-called Twinkies bandit — Charles Steve Ortez, Jr. — has been granted by Judge Kenneth Barr. Ortez is accused of robbing a Twin Peaks convenience store of Twinkies and other items.
The dispo/reset hearing is now scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, in Department S-21. Deputy Public Defender Scott Roberts requested the continuance on behalf of Ortez.
Ortez was present at the brief court appearance on August 29 and remains in custody on $500,000 bail at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.
THE CASE
Ortez, Jr., 62, is charged with allegedly robbing Mountain High Market in Twin Peaks on Monday, October 1, 2012, of Twinkies, milk, Coke, whiskey and cash. The armed robbery, utilizing a Taurus .38-caliber revolver, took place just minutes before the market was scheduled to close for the night, according to documents released by the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station.
