Father Suspected Of Child Abuse And Torture Faces Pre-Preliminary Hearing

San Bernardino, CA - The Sugarloaf father, suspected of assaulting his 22-month-old daughter, appears in San Bernardino County Superior Court on Thursday, July 24, for a pre-preliminary hearing.  The hearing for Aaron Wayne Degrise, now 20, is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in Department S-12.

SBC Court LogoDegrise, who remains in custody at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, is being held on $1 million bail. He has entered a plea of not guilty to all charges.

THE ALLEGED INCIDENT

Investigators from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Department reported that the teenage parents of the young girl were arrested in July 2013 after a hospital examination revealed that the female victim had extensive injuries, suspected of being caused by abuse.

Deputies responded to Bear Valley Community Hospital on Tuesday, July 9,  2013, related to the infant, who had injuries to her head and body. The child was transported to Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital for additional treatment. Medical examinations by LLUCH forensic pediatricians revealed the alleged abuse.

THE INVESTIGATION

The Crimes Against Children detail of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department assumed the investigation, leading to the arrest of the victim’s parents — Degrise (then 19)  and the unidentified 17-year-old mother, according to a media release issued July 11, 2013.

He is charged with violating Penal Code 206 – Torture and Penal Code 273ab(a) – Assault on a Child Causing Coma.

The mother is charged with violating penal Code 273a(1) – Willfully Causing or Permitting a Child to be Injured. At last report, she was being held at San Bernardino Juvenile Hall without bail, as is the case with all juveniles booked at Juvenile Hall.
